BERLIN: The German economy expanded by 0.75 percent in the second quarter, its strongest rate in more than two years, but growth will slow in the second half of the year, German Deputy Economy Minister Bernhard Heitzer told Reuters on Friday.
Strong growth in the second quarter was partly due to the construction industry catching up after a long winter, he said.
"Growth will be more moderate in the second half of the year," Heitzer said, but added that recent economic data was consistent with the government's forecast for 0.5 percent growth this year.
Germany, which only narrowly avoided a recession in early 2013 after shrinking late last year, is due to release preliminary data on gross domestic product (GDP) on Aug. 14.
