Germany says trusts France will stick to EU stability pact

(Reuters) - The German government is confident France will respect the terms of the European Union's Stability and Growth Pact even after Paris indicated it would seek to renegotiate its deficit-reduction deadline with the European Commission, a government spokesman said on Friday.

Opposition Socialists Snub Bulgarian FinMin's Financial Stability Pact

The opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) has formally refused to support the Constitution amendments proposed by Finance Minister Simeon Djankov to guarantee fiscal soundness with a "Financial Stability Pact."

Djankov held talks with BSP Chair and ex PM Sergey Stanishev for more than an hour on Wednesday trying to convince the Socialists to back his project.

Bulgarian Socialists Frustrate FinMin's Hopes for Financial Stability Pact

Bulgaria's opposition Socialists have made it clear they will not support the Constitutional amendments known as a "Financial Stability Pact" proposed by Finance Minister Simeon Djankov.

The Bulgarian Socialist Party will oppose Djankov's brainchild, announced Georgi Kadiev, an economist known as "the red yuppie", who was a deputy finance minister the Stanishev Cabinet.
